In one of the most bombshell announcements in recent IndyCar memory, or even in its entire history, it was revealed that multi-time champion and sport icon Scott Dixon will move on from the team he has called home for 25 years.

Dixon will depart from Chip-Ganassi Racing at the conclusion of the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season, and move over to McLaren for 2027, and likely the remainder of his career.

Chip Ganassi released an official statement on Thursday morning, stating that the organization had offered the veteran a multi-year contract extension, which the driver declined.

McLaren now rolls into the future with not only a young phenom in Pato O’Ward, but as well as one of the series greats to help the program and chase another championship, as well as an Indianapolis 500.

More details of Dixon’s new deal are expected to come out in the coming weeks.
