In a late, foggy night at Chicagoland Speedway, it was Brandon Jones who rallied through the field late in the running to get the victory in the first O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race in Joliet in seven years.
The win did not come easy whatsoever, as late restarts would continue to stack up the field until it eventually played into the hands of the No. 20, with a driver who has won multiple 1.5-mile track races in his career.
Jones had to fend off a NASCAR Cup Series champion in Chase Elliott to get the victory, holding the JR Motorsports No. 88 off on the final lap. Jesse Love finished in the third position, with Brent Crews and Austin Hill rounding out the top five.
Justin Allgaier, the hometown guy, finished in sixth after a night he fought all race long just inside the top 10. After the race, Allgaier spoke a lot about how dynamic and unpredictable the track was, being all the rain and colder temps changed the track drastically from the practice they had in the afternoon.
Taylor Gray, who led laps late as well, settled for seventh, while Sam Mayer, Cole Custer, and Connor Zilisch rounded out the top 10 finishers.
